Here are 10 of the most paranormal places around the world

I still remember the first time I heard the word 'paranormal'. It was
way back in 2007 when the first part of Paranormal Activity was
released. Initially I got so bored that I almost fell asleep. But then
when the 'acts' started, it sent chills down my spine.

Paranormal can be defined as anything whose existence lies beyond
normal experience or scientific explanation. From ghosts to extra
terrestrial life, from extra sensory perception to psychic abilities -
these all come under paranormal beliefs.

Here are 10 of the most paranormal places around the world.

1. Bhangarh Fort, India



Bhangarh Fort is located in the state of Rajasthan, India. The fort
was built in 1573.

According to legend, this fort is said to be haunted by a tantrik who tried
to use black magic to make a princess fall in love with him.
Unfortunately, it backfired causing death of the tantrik. Before
dying, he cursed the fort and all its residents. Soon after, the town
was invaded and most of the inhabitants of the fort were killed,
including the princess.

Entry into the fort after midnight is forbidden by The Archaeological
Survey of India.

2. The Tower of London, England


The Tower of London is one of the most haunted places in the United
Kingdom. This historical place was the site where several people in
English history were beheaded. That explains it all.

According to sources, the ghost of Anne Boleyn, beheaded in 1536 for
treason against Henry VIII, haunts the fort where she is buried, and
has been said to walk around the White Tower carrying her head under
her arm.

Other reported ghosts include Henry VI, Lady Jane Grey, Margaret Pole,
and the Princes in the Tower.



3. Aokigahara Forest, Japan

Popularly known as the Suicide Forest, Aokigahara Forest lies at the
base of Mt. Fuji in Japan. The forest is very dense and has a eerie
feel. Hundreds of people commit suicide in that forest every year.

It is said that the forest is haunted by spirits who do not want to
leave the mortal world. Many other stories all do prevail.

Visitors are advised to mark their trails so as to not get lost. There
are signs placed around the forest by the local police which reads
“Your life is a precious gift to your parents” and “Please consult
with the police before you decide to die.”



4. St. Augustine Lighthouse, USA

St. Augustine Lighthouse was built in 1820 in Florida, USA. The
paranormal incidents related to this lighthouse is pretty fascinating.
Many visitors have noticed the scent of a burning
cigar believed to belong to one of the men who was a caretaker and
died on the job.

Visitors have reported being pulled downstairs by the spirit of a girl
dressed in blue velvet.

The Atlantic Paranormal Activity crew investigated this place and
found many evidences regarding the paranormal activities. The
evidences included a video of what appears to be a woman looking over
the railing on the lighthouse staircase. They also captured shadow
figures, and an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) of a woman crying out
for help.


5. Island of Dolls, Mexico

Isla de las Munecas or Island of Dolls is located south of Mexico
City, between the canals of Xochimico.

It is said that a girl was found drowned in mysterious circumstances
many years ago on this island and that the dolls are possessed by her
spirit.

Julian Barrerra was the caretaker of the island and person behind
putting up so many dolls. It is said that he was haunted by the spirit
of the girl. His body was found in the canal in 2001 at the same spot
where the girl had drowned.

Local legend says that the dolls move their heads and arms and even
opened their eyes.


6. Château de Châteaubriant, France


The Château de Châteaubriant was built in the 11th century. The
haunting dates to the 16th century, and the story of Jean de Laval and
his wife Françoise de Foix. King Francis I asked de Laval to assist
him at court, and Françoise joined him there, becoming the lady in
waiting to the queen. She also became King Francis’ mistress. She died
on Oct. 16, 1537 under mysterious circumstances. It was rumored that
de Laval had learned of her affair and locked her in a room until he
could poison her. Now, every year, on Oct. 16, Françoise walks the
halls of the Château.


7. Mary King's Close, Scotland


This was a trading place before the plague broke out in 1645. Today,
this place is considered as haunted.

Visitors have reported ghosts of an elderly lady, a woman in black and
a little girl named Annie. Annie has been known to interact with
people who leave behind gifts for her.
Paranormal activities reported are
                                                                                    flicking,stones, following footsteps and sounds of toasting in a tavern.



8. Castle of Good Hope, South Africa

This castle was built in the 16th century by the Dutch East India Company.

The castle has several stories of
ghosts like a screaming woman, a tall gentleman and a black dog that
pounces on unsuspecting visitors.
Even today, screams, strange voices
and footsteps still terrify soldiers on guard during the late night shift at the Castle of Good Hope.



9. Dreamworld, Australia


Dreamworld is a theme park in Coomera, Queensland, Australia. This
place has been reported to be haunted since 2001.

Many production staff claimed to have witnessed the presence of a
young girl, as well as a child's voice and fog appearing late at night
and early in
the morning



10. Eastern State Penitentiary, USA

This was built in 1829 to hold inmates in solitary confinement.

Reported haunting activity includes:
A shadow-like figure that scoots quickly away when
approached.

A figure that stands in the guard tower.

An evil cackling reportedly comes from cellblock 12.

In cellblock 6, another shadowy figure has been seen sliding down the wall.

Mysterious, ghostly faces are said to appear in cellblock 4
